Certification

New Certification Procedure invoked by the National Board in October 2014

Certification is now a two step process: 1) Write your exam and 2) pay for your membership. One does not have to pay for membership until the exam is passed. You are then issued your certificate and you are listed on our web page as a “Certified Vibration Analyst” in that category. The validity term is 5 years as long as membership is current. Membership is required for a valid certificate.

Training and Certification Policy, modified February 15, 2005

A joint training and certification meeting was held in Montreal in January, 2005. As a result of that meeting, a draft policy was prepared. It was circulated to the Training and Certification Committees for electronic voting in June, and a motion to submit it to the Board of Directors for their vote was passed.

During the first two weeks of July, the Board voted to accept the policy, which is shown below.

1 ) The CMVA recognizes a need and a desire for a national certification program for individuals working in the area of machinery vibration measurement, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. This is required to ensure that high quality data is acquired and properly analyzed to permit the reliable diagnosis and prognosis of machinery dynamic behavior. It is intended that the CMVA certification program will become the widely accepted standard method of certification of machinery vibration professionals in Canada.

2 ) This program shall be implemented and administered by representatives of industry and the professions through the CMVA. Although the CMVA may choose to cooperate with various levels of government, the training and certification programs are not intended to be government regulated.

3 ) 2 The CMVA will continue to build its strong relationship with the Vibration Institute on training and certification issues. The CMVA will develop its own certification and training programs where needs are identified.

4 ) 2 This certification program is intended to verify competency in vibration measurement and interpretation, supplemental to the skill set required by the individuals’ trades and/or professions.

5 ) 2 certification program is optional. It is not intended to impinge upon the authority and jurisdiction of the registered professions; however, there should be no barrier to involvement by members of the registered professions.

6 ) 2 requirements for this certification will be based on those parts of the current draft of the ISO 18436 Standard that are considered appropriate. The intent of those sections used shall not be changed from that of the ISO Standard. Additions that take the form of clarifications may be made.

7 ) 2 The certification program is intended for candidates from various industries.

8 ) 2 Numerous courses and private certification programs are in existence. It is hoped that the establishment of a national certification program and accepted training syllabuses will encourage providers of these programs to participate in the national certification program.

9 ) 2 CMVA prefers to leave training to commercial vendors.
