Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between certification, membership, and website registration?
Certification is the documented proof that you have satisfied all ISO requirements to be a certified analyst. Certifications expire after 5 years.
Memberships to the association are purchased for 1 or more years as a time and run from January1st to December 31st. Membership grants access to member benefits.
Website Registration is the creation of a profile at the website which is required to hold information on your certification and allows you access to the website shop.
Does my certification expire?
Certification lasts for 5 years. Prior to expiry, the certification must be renewed. Renewal can be performed by proof of appropriate activity in the certification field, or by retaking the certification exam (If the certification has expired, a certification exam is mandatory).
If my category II certification is expired, can I proceed to a category III certification course and exam?
A valid category II certification is one of the prerequisites to taking a category III certification exam. If your category II certification has expired, you must retake a category II certification exam prior to taking a category III certification exam.
If I am certified by another certification body, can I get a CMVA certificate?
The only way to receive a CMVA certification is to successfully complete the CMVA certification process, including a CMVA exam.
Can I use another certification bodies certificate as prerequisite to take a CMVA certification examination?
Not all certification bodies are recognized by CMVA. If a certification body is recognized by CMVA, that bodies certification can be used as a prerequisite to CMVA certification. It is best practice to verify that your certifications are recognized by CMVA before proceeding with certification.
What is the grace period?
CMVA offers a 6-month grace period at the certification expiry date. After the grace period has expired, retaking the certification exam is required for renewal.
How do I recertify for 5 more years?
Certification renewal can be performed by proof of appropriate activity in the certification field, or by retaking the certification exam (If the certification has expired, a certification exam is mandatory). There is also a recertification fee payable upon recertification. If the applicant has been a CMVA member for the full term of certification, the certification renewal fee will be waived.
What if I don’t have required experience for certification? Can I still take a certification course and exam?
Yes. You may take a certification course and exam without having the appropriate experience. In these cases, official certification will not be granted and documented until the prerequisite experience has been attained. In any case, the expiry of certification is 5 years from the date of the examination.
